During summers or early autumns past we have been excited to invite old friends and new fiber enthusiasts to our family farm for a buffet luncheon and farm tour including edible gardens and hilltop views of the Catskills. This past summer in lieu of our gathering, we assisted at the Dutchess County Fair, Wool Room with the local fiber guild Elmendorf Handspinners Guild. See them at elmendorphhandspinners.org.
During this year’s growing season, we grew a selection of dyeing plants – including wonderful tall-red and stocky Amaranth — to dye our farm-raised Cormo sheep skeins to create lovely, hand-dyed, sport-weight yarns. Although these are not for sale, we’ll have a nice selection of hand-dyed yarns at our markets this fall created from more standard, and commercially available vegetable dyes. Our selection over the past years has been very appreciated by fiber enthusiasts for their own creations. See our Farm Events page for more info.
